One of the least explored treks in India, the Chenap Valley Lake Trek attracts adventurous explorers seeking solitude and pristine natural beauty. Nestled amidst lush greenery, Chenap Lake and its serene surroundings provide an ideal spot for camping and relaxation. The Chenap Valley trek is accessible from Joshimath and involves a gradual climb from 2,050 m to 4,000 m, taking approximately 4 - 5 days, offering trekkers a profound sense of isolation and tranquility.
Along the route to the secluded village of Chai, trekkers are treated to panoramic views of towering Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, and Dunagiri. The changing light throughout the day creates a photographer's paradise. Continuing toward the peaceful village of Thai, with its gentle slopes and verdant surroundings, provides a refreshing stop along the trail.
At the foot of Chenap Valley, Dharkhark presents expansive meadows adorned with a rich variety of flowers — from orchids, poppies, and primulas to Brahmakamal, marigolds, daisies, and anemones. Medicinal plants, along with Rhododendron, Sal, and Teak groves, carpet the landscape, while the clear blue sky adds a mesmerizing backdrop for this remote Himalayan trek.
The trail also introduces trekkers to Swanu and Nandu Lakes, offering crystal-clear waters and a cool, inviting ambiance, perfect for setting up camp. Another highlight is the ancient Rajrajeshwari Mohan Nanda Temple, adding a cultural and spiritual dimension to the journey.
Additionally, the route provides options to visit other breathtaking points, including the shrine of Badrinath, the scenic Khiron Valley, and Kalpeshwar, enriching the trekking experience with both natural and spiritual wonders.
