Overview

The Khatling Glacier, an exceptionally beautiful glacier, is the source of the Bhilangana River. According to legend, Bhilangana, a divine spirit, tried to tempt Lord Shiva. When she was rejected, she transformed into a liquid form, giving rise to the river Bhilangana. Sahasratal and Masar Tal lie to the west and east of Khatling Glacier, respectively. The glacier is surrounded by snowcapped peaks such as the Jogin Group (6,466 m), Barte Kauter (6,579 m), Sphetic Pristwar (6,905 m), Kirti Stambh (6,902 m), and Meru. The Bhilangana Valley is a paradise for nature lovers and photographers.

If you are passionate about exploring the pristine beauty of the Himalayas, the Khatling Sahastra Tal Trek is ideal. You will pass lakes like Masar Tal, Vasuki Tal, and Sahastra Tal, enjoy panoramic views of hanging glaciers, and marvel at majestic snow-covered peaks. The trek begins through lush green meadows and dense forests and later crosses two passes above 17,000 ft, navigating glaciers, moraines, and snowfields. During the monsoon season, the meadows bloom with a spectacular array of wildflowers.

At Trekking in India, we offer a meticulously planned Khatling Sahastra Tal trekking tour to make your adventure enjoyable and safe. The trek begins in Bhilangana Valley and ends in Kedarnath Valley. Rated moderate to challenging, the best time to undertake this trek is May to October. Bhilangana Valley offers excellent spots for camping along the route.
