Overview

The Chalung Kangri Trek, rated moderate to challenging, is one of the best peak climbing treks in Ladakh. It takes you through some of the most remote areas of the Rupshu region in Eastern Ladakh. Also known as Kula Kangri, the peak of Chalung Kangri rises to 6,546 meters. It stands above Namshang La and the northern part of the Thalda Kurmi range. This route, with its challenging terrain and high altitude, is perfect for adventure seekers who want the thrills of high-altitude trekking.

During this trek in Ladakh, after completing a pre-summit trek from Rumbak to Stok via Stok La, trekkers drive over the famous Tanglang La pass (5,328 m) to reach the remote Tso Kar region. This area is home to nomadic herders and unique wildlife such as blue sheep, kiang, Tibetan antelope, and wolves.

From Tso Kar, the journey continues over three high passes until reaching Korzok Phu, one of the largest nomadic settlements in the area. The trail then takes you to Yalung Nau La Pass (5,400 m), where you can enjoy panoramic views of the 20-km-long Tso Moriri Lake. Trekkers also have the opportunity to summit Yalung Nong Peak (6,050 m) without needing ropes or crampons, adding an accessible high-altitude peak experience to this unique trek in Ladakh. The expedition wraps up with explorations of nearby lakes and the setup of a base camp, allowing trekkers to immerse themselves in one of the most scenic and untouched landscapes in the Himalayan region.

This expedition is one of the most amazing treks in Ladakh. It combines remote high-altitude landscapes, wildlife encounters, and nomadic cultural experiences. It is a must-do for seasoned adventurers and anyone looking for breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
