Overview

Rising to 5,645 meters, Bhanoti Peak stands as a hidden gem in the Sunderdhunga Valley of Bageshwar, nestled deep within the Kumaon Himalayas. This expedition in Uttarakhand is perfect for adventure seekers looking to transition from trekking to peak climbing, as it offers a rewarding challenge without demanding prior technical mountaineering experience.

The journey begins at Dau Village, a quaint settlement that serves as the gateway to the trail. From here, the route meanders through Ridang, descends to the shimmering Pindar River, and then ascends towards Jaitoli, the last inhabited village on the trail. Beyond Jaitoli, the trek to Khataliya takes you through dense forests along the riverbank, revealing the rich biodiversity of the region. From Khataliya, the climb towards the base camp via Bhaluni Top is nothing short of spectacular, with breathtaking views of the mighty Panwali Dwar (6,663 m) and Maiktoli (6,803 m) Peaks.

The stretch from the base camp to the Advance Base Camp introduces more demanding terrain, with rugged moraines and rocky patches testing your endurance. The summit attempt is the most challenging part of this mountain expedition in Uttarakhand, involving steep, technical ascents. Yet, the effort is well worth it; the panoramic views of Nanda Devi (7,816 m), Panwali Dwar, Maiktoli, and other towering Himalayan giants from the summit are unforgettable.

After descending to the Advance Base Camp, the trail leads you to the sacred Devi Kund, a pristine glacial lake that adds a spiritual charm to the adventure. The path here is tricky, requiring careful footing across scree and moraine, but every step is rewarding. Eventually, you retrace your way back to Jaitoli and Dau Village, carrying with you not just photographs but memories of an expedition filled with challenge, beauty, and Himalayan grandeur.
