Chobia Pass Trek (Dalhousie - Manali Trek)
Second highest altitude pass in Pir Panjal Range, Chobia Pass is an intriguing and adventurous trekking destination requiring good knowledge of trekking basics. During the trail, the trekkers can relish the exquisiteness of Pir Panjal and can explore the customs and rituals of local inhabitants known as Gaddi as well. The pass is slightly risky at the time of snowfall. The trek begins from the engrossing region of Bharmour. The trail to this enchanting pass includes the spiffing views of picturesque landscapes.
This 09 Nights and 10 Days itinerary take the travellers to the hair rousing and gratifying trekking tour to Chobia Pass. The major attractions on the route are Bharmani Mata Temple, Kathedu Temple and Alyas Base Camp. This trek is ideal for trekkers to get soaked in the peerless beauty of nature in the midst of soothing serenity.
Day 1: Delhi - Pathankot
Take a train for Pathankot train station by evening from Delhi. Overnight train journey.
Day 2: Pathankot - Dalhousie (80 Kms drive)
On arrival at Pathankot train stations meet our executive and drive to Dalhousie. On arrival at Dalhousie, check into the pre booked hotel and in evening visit local sight seen of Small Hill station Dalhousie.
Day 3: Dalhousie - Kalatop - Khajiyar - Bharmour (110 Kms drive)
In the morning after breakfast in the hotel, we will move from Dalhousie to the Kalatop wildlife sanctuary and then to Khajiyar. Enjoy the beauty of Mini Switzerland and take lunch. After Lunch, we will move to Bharmour via Chamba. On arrival in Bharmour, check into the hotel. In the evening, we will join the Aarti at Chaurasi temples. Later, return back to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 4: Bharmour - Bharmani Mata Temple - Bharmour (6Km Trek for acclimatization Day)
We will leave early in the morning today after having breakfast in the hotel and with packed lunch for trekking to Bharmani Temple, which is situated on the ridge and is a 03 km trek from Bharmour. In the evening, return back to the hotel in Bharmour for an overnight stay.
Day 5: Bharmour - Hadsar - Kugti (20 Kms drive and 06 Km Trek)
After breakfast early in the morning, we will move to Chobia via Taxi and then further strenuous trek involving several ascents and descents to the Kathedu temple. The trek will pass you through gradual climbs continuing through meadows dotted with multicoloured flowers, especially during August and September for a run of 2 hours. Thereafter, we will reach at the Kathedu temple along with small stream. After taking dinner at the temple, we will stay for a night and revive the body for next day journey.
Day 6: Kathedu Temple - Alyas Base Camp (9 Km trek)
Today, we will leave from the Kathedu temple to reach Alyas Base Camp, which involves around 9 kms of the walk. Base ground of Passes or Camp grounds on both sides of passes are called Alyas locally called Lahesh. After taking breakfast early in the morning at Kathedu temple, we will move ahead to steep and gradual climbs through up the forest thins out as height is gained. Go up through more pasture and juniper trees to Alias; rock shelter and a few Gaddi shepherds in a camp nearby pass. After taking lunch at Alyas camping ground, we will enjoy the rest of the day in the camp followed by dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 7: Alyas Base Camp - Chobia Pass- Alyas Base Camp (12 km Trek)
After breakfast, we will leave Alyas Base Camp to reach Chobia Pass and then return back to the Alyas again. It will be a 12 Kms track and is totally depending upon the weather and physical condition of the tracker. Generally, our tour guide will not take the risk or allow crossing the passes in bad weather conditions and will wait for clearing the sky. If the sun shines, then after taking tea and light breakfast start moving ahead very early in the morning around 4:00 am to ensure that the snow is frozen for easier walking and if fails to cross the pass before 12:00 pm will create a big problem as heavy snow winds, rainfall even snowfall can happen. The hard climbing of about 6Km to the pass takes 5-7 hours. Passing over a moraine the trail leads up a crevassed glacier and through a narrow gully with vertical walls on both sides. On the top of the pass, panoramic view of the Zaskar Range to the North and the Manimahesh Range to the South. On the other side, pick a way down at 100 meters high rock face; below that goes straight down usually in deep soft snow. Descending a glacier for two hours is followed by a moraine for one another hour, then to Alias camp ground. After taking Lunch at Alyas enjoy the whole day and revive the body for the next day.
Day 8: Alyas - Trilokinath - Udaipur
In the morning after breakfast, we will leave Alyas to reach Trilokinath and then to Udaipur, which is 14 Km descends to the East side of the Chobia pass. We will walk for about 6 km over rocky terrain. Then cross the pleasant terrain and descend gently to the small village of Bhaghot above the Chandra-Bhaga River. Stay for a while and move ahead from there the track turns North West side along the river, through forest and pleasant fields and reach Trilokinath. This big village has an ancient Buddhist temple that houses a one meter high marble statue of God Avalokiteshvar, sitting cross-legged and with six arms. From there, we will walk through fields for two Km, the trails go down to cross the river and join the main highway to Udaipur. From the Highway, we will take the taxi to reach Udaipur. On reaching Udaipur, enjoy a relaxing overnight stay at the hotel/guest house in Udaipur.
Day 9: Udaipur - Keylong - Manali
Today after breakfast, we will leave Udaipur to return back to Manali. On the way, we will be visiting the main temple of Mirkla Mata at Udaipur. Further, we will move to Keylong, District headquarters of Lahaul. After Keylong, we will be further moving to Manali via Rohtang pass. We will stay for one hr on the top of Rohtang pass. On reaching Manali, transfer to Volvo station and drive to Delhi. Overnight journey.
Day 10: Arrive Delhi
Arrival at Delhi by morning in between 07:00 - 08:00 hrs.
