Baleni Pass Trek
Located at the base of Dhauladhar Range between the Kangra and Chamba Districts in Himachal Pradesh, Baleni Pass is positioned at a soaring height of 3730 meters from the sea level. The pass is also named as Minkiani Pass and offers an idyllic base for enjoying the enthralling adventure of trekking. On the route, the trekkers can explore the splendid rock cave edified by the Gaddi Shephards. Baleni Pass is the traversing point of the path that goes from Chamba to Kangra. On the other side just below the pass, is a glacial lake called as Kareri Lake. The top of the pass offers the intriguing views of Pir Panjal and Chamba Valley.
Dhauladhar is blocked on the North Side by an elevated crest that gives origin to a large glacier and a single stream. These glaciers are so much plentiful that they are second to none. These glacial lakes are majorly found around the Baleni Pass and make the landscape spellbinding. On Kangra side, one can witness exotic scenery endowed by Kareri Lake. Chamba Side proffers the fascinating views of Kali Kund, Lam Dal and Nag Dal. These regions are situated within a day's trek from Baleni Pass. One can relish the view of Dhauladhar Peaks forming a curve. This view can be enjoyed while standing at the top of the pass and looking towards east. The trek to Baleni Pass starts from the captivating region of Bharmour and ends at the fascinating region of Dharamshala.
Baleni Pass is positioned at the foot of Dhauladhar Range. The trekkers pass through alpine pastures, forests, sparkling streams, and charming landscapes. This trekking Trail terminates at McLeodganj on the Kangra side. This 09 Nights and 10 Days itinerary take the traveller to an engrossing trekking tour to Baleni Pass. Throughout the trek, the adventurers will find splendid view of unexplored Himalaya.
Day 1: Delhi - Pathankot
Take an overnight train to Pathankot from Delhi train station. Overnight journey.
Day 2: Pathankot - Dalhousie (80 Kms by Taxi)
On arrival at Pathankot, meet our executive and transfer to Dalhousie by car. On reaching Dalhousie, check into your pre booked hotel and in evening visit local sight seen of Small Hill station Dalhousie. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 3: Dalhousie - Kalatop - Khajiyar - Bharmour (110 Kms by Taxi)
On arrival at Pathankot / Chakki Bank, enjoy the welcome reception party hosted by our executive in your honour. Thereafter, drive to Dalhousie. On reaching Dalhousie, check into the hotel and in evening visit local sight seen of Small Hill station Dalhousie.
Day 4: Bharmour - Bharmani Mata Temple - Bharmour (6Km Trek for acclimatization Day)
Today, we will leave early in the morning after having a healthy breakfast and with packed lunch for trekking to Bharmani Temple. This temple is located on the ridge and is 03 km trek from Bharmour. In the evening, return back to your hotel in Bharmour for an overnight stay.
Day 5: Bharmour - Chatrari - Barie (50 kms By Taxi)
After breakfast in the morning, we will move to a small village Chatrari by taxi and lead a distance of 38 km. Chatrari is small and beautiful valley village famous for its ancient shakti temple. Enjoy the ancient beauty of the village and visit the famous temple. Thereafter, we will move ahead toward Baire. After reaching at Dunali village, we will leave the main highway and take the link road to Barie. Spend the rest of the day for acclimatization in Barie and enjoy an overnight stay in the camp.
Day 6: Barie - Drakund (10 kms trek)
In the morning after breakfast, we will trek from Barie to Drakund. Drakund is a beautiful camp site. After crossing the Barie village, we will follow the nallah. A climb of up and downs will reach Drakund. On reaching the camp site, we will take rest to prepare ourself for the next day journey. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in the camp.
Day 7: Drakund - Minkiani Goth (12 kms trek)
Today, we will leave early in the morning after breakfast and with packed lunch group from the camp for adventurous trek. Drakund to Minkiani or Baleni Pass Base Camp is 12 km steep climbing trail through dense and thick forests. On the way, you will find Deodar and Pines trees in the forest. The route is rough and locals call this pass as Baleni Pass. This is a long tiring trek descends along the Drakund to Lamb Dal Nallah. The best season to visit this place is August and September, Gaddis and Gujjars are seen along with their sheep and buffaloes flocks. A trek of 5-6 hrs will take you to the destination Baleni Pass Base Camp. Revive your tired body here for next day. Enjoy dinner followed by an overnight stay with camp fire in the camp.
Day 8: Minkiani Base Camp - Minkiani Goth (10 kms Trek)
Today, we will leave from Minkiani Base camp to Minkiani Goth or over Baleni Pass trek. This trek is a tough one. Thus, can be undertaken by only physically fit person and in favourable weather conditions. Generally, our travel guides do not take risk or take the group for trekking in bad weather conditions. Once the sky will be clear, the journey will start further. If the sky will be clear, then after taking light breakfast and packed lunch start moving ahead very early in the morning to ensure that the snow is frozen for easier walking
Minkiani Base camp to Minkiani Goth is a 10 km trek and very difficult trek that can be experienced only with the travel guide. En-route, we will climb to Lamb Dal for a holy dip. Lam Dal is considered as sacred and the largest lake in the Dhauladhar. Every Year in the month of August, pilgrims from Chamba and Kangra districts climb up the mountains to take a holy dip in the Lam Dal waters. The numbers are small enough to ensure there is absolutely no littering. All other times, the lakes are used for personal baths. Lam Dal is the beginning of a stream. As the stream continues west, it forms 3 more lakes. There are twenty two lakes in this Mountain range. After taking a holy dip in the Lamb Dal, we will trek downhill very carefully to Minkiani Goth over Minkiani Pass. Enjoy an overnight stay in the tents in Minkiani Goth.
Day 9: Minkiani Goth - Kareri Lake (10 kms Trek)
After breakfast in the morning, we will trek from Minkiani Goth to Kareri Lake, which is situated in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh. It's an easier trek for everyone from Minkiani Goth. It is frequented trek by mostly Gujjars and Gaddis from the nearby villages because of extensive pasturelands to graze their flocks. Clusters of dense conifers and different kinds of perennial flowers are a rare treat offered by this place. After long tiring last day, today is comparatively better day for trekking. Minkiani Goth to Kareri Lake is 10 km downhill trek, It is going down but very tiring, Charming view from the Kareri lake will be seen from the top even from Minkiani pass. After reaching at Kareri Lake you will forget all your tiredness. Enjoy an overnight stay with camp fire in the camp.
Day 10: Kareri lake - Kareri Village (10 kms Trek)
After breakfast in the morning, we will trek from Kareri Lake to Kareri Village, which is 10 Km trek where you will find first inhabitant after such a long and joyful trekking the trek goes steeply down to Kali Mandir or one can trek via Rohli which is a longer trek with mild ascents. The trek goes down along Kareri Nallah between a valleys thickly wooded on both sides. After a trek of 3-4 hrs will reach in the beautiful Kareri Village on the top of Dharamshala valley. You will find here watermills, contour farming, old long bridge which they are using from many year for the life journey.
Day 11: Kareri Village - Mcleodgunj (10 kms Trek) - Delhi
Today, we will leave from Kareri Village to visit Mcleodgunj, which is a 10 Km trek where you actually join the road head. The trek passes through Ghera along the pines trees, Satabari and Dal Lake. After reaching at Mcleodgunj, transfer to Volvo station and from here catch AC Volvo Bus for Delhi. Overnight journey. Arrive Delhi next morning.
